I am an aspiring photographer living in the foothills of North Carolina.  Some awards I have received for my photography include:
-First place in “Found Moments” category and an honorable mention in the “Abstract” category for the Caldwell County Arts Council Photo Contest.
-Third place in Our State magazine in the “Animal Behavior” category.
-Honorable Mention in Wildlife in North Carolina for “State Parks” category.
-And currently have several photos entered into NC Wildlife Magazine Photo Contest.
My photos have been shown on WBTV news channel 3, the Lenoir NewsTopic, Our State Magazine, and also published in military publications.  I currently take photos for the Lenoir NewsTopic and volunteer my photography services to the NC National Guard’s 1450th Transportation Unit, in which I am also a soldier.
I have received my photography education from the renowned David Hessell at CCC&TI.  I hope to one day travel the world as David does, photographing all of its greatness.

Photography has always been my passion but I didn’t get truly serious until my 2003 deployment to Iraq.  My idea was not only to record my experiences through journalizing but to visually record them as well.  After returning home from my second tour in 2005 I enrolled in David Hessell’s photography classes where I learned darkroom and film processing techniques.  Even though photography has gone mostly digital, I have a better understanding and respect for photography.

While shooting photos of a Civil War reenactment at Fort Defiance, I had the privilege of meeting David Prewitt, Senior Staff Photographer for the Lenoir NewsTopic.  I shared with him my interest in working for the newspaper.  I shared some photos with the editors and they offered me a position as string photographer.

My greatest achievement has not been winning contests or selling my photos but seeing someone’s reaction or emotion to an image I have captured, such as a family portrait of a dad with cancer or a bride on her wedding day.  That’s when I know I’ve done my job well.
